This week Mark and Ed have fallen in love with St Germain Elderflower Cordial (20%). A delightfully natural alcoholic cordial, it will make you feel like the sun is shining even if summer did desert us disgracefully early.
St Germain is produced in very limited amounts as it is made from elderflower blossoms hand-picked from the foothills of the alps each spring. It is worth buying for story and the beautiful bottle alone. The flavours are hard to pin down, but passionfruit, pear, grapefruit and lemon are all hinted at and there is a citrussy lushness to round the whole thing off. Altogether, scrumptios summer loveliness ina bottle.
We recommend trying it simply over ice with soda or use it to brighten up your G&T. I personally like a splash in my bubbly. If you want to get experimental it will work so many ways. I believe Mark may have got a bit tiddly mixing it with Mandarin Vodka and Plymouth Gin.
You really should have been there………………
There are tastings and then there are tastings and last month we served up the most phenomenal Italian Masterclass in the company of Michael Palij, Master of Wine, who steered us through some of his most recent discoveries (notably a Sardinian quartet which provided all the evidence you need of the revolution taking place in the island’s vineyards and cellars).
