One of the advantages to a lifetime of sourcing some of the world's most glorious wines is some of the characters you meet along the way and we are beyond thrilled that we've managed to convince a number of these to join us at our tasting table and share some of their favourite stories and wines with us. We're kicking off proceedings with Graham Wharmby, a very old friend whose face will be familiar to regular attendees to our pre-Christmas bunfights and following up in July with an evening in the company of the totally awesome (his words not mine) Michael Palij MW, Further details and a booking link are here. Just 12 tickets available for each event so don't hang around.
Recent years have seen Graham heading a new company with a mission to source the wild, the whacky and, at times, the brazenly bonkers - the sorts of wines that leave us scratching our heads thinking "I really like this but I'm not sure why and I have no idea how I'm going to sell it." Their range covers most of the globe but "undiscovered Loire" is one of their absolute strengths. Properly exciting wines and loads of fun.

His biog below gives you all the nitty gritty but what you really need to know about Michael is that he is one of the world's leading communicators on wine. His depth of knowledge is astonishing but, more importantly, his ability to communicate at all levels is what sets him apart. Every time he has presented for us in the past he has had his audience totally captivated. A great night with some truly exceptional wines.
A Canadian, Michael emigrated to the UK in 1989 and qualified as a Master of Wine in 1995 at the age of just 29. His first trip to Italy was as a wine buyer in 1994. He promptly fell in love with both the country and its wines and subsequently visited Italy on more than 100 occasions learning about its history, grape varieties, and terroir. Michael now writes and teaches widely on his specialist subject. He lives in Oxford.
You really should have been there………………
There are tastings and then there are tastings and last month we served up the most phenomenal Italian Masterclass in the company of Michael Palij, Master of Wine, who steered us through some of his most recent discoveries (notably a Sardinian quartet which provided all the evidence you need of the revolution taking place in the island’s vineyards and cellars).
Yup, we’re going all Teutonic for the month of April with tastings (both in-store and virtual), a smashing and stupidly discounted “anything but Riesling” mixed case of Germanic joy and a whopping 10% discount off all German wines throughout the month.
10 % discount you say……?
Yup, this is the simple bit – 10% discount on all German wines throughout April – no minimum quantity.
