Traditional grape varieties are sourced from the Quinta do Retiro estate and neighbouring growers in the Rio Torto Valley. Here old vines are planted in schistous soils. Fermentation is in open granite tanks called ‘lagares’, where the grapes are trodden by foot. Fermentation is interrupted by the addition of grape spirit to preserve a certain degree of natural sweetness. All ageing is done in 547 litre oak barrels (the traditional ‘pipe’) and larger casks. Bottled to order. This Port was aged for four decades in cask.
This elegant single vintage tawny has a complex nose of orange peel, hazelnuts, cherries and spice. The palate is silky with a luscious sweetness, rich nutty and spicy characters, a touch of salinity, and tangy orange peel acidity. The finish is amazingly long with notes of toffee and caramel.
"This blend was carefully put together for this limited edition from specially selected Ports from Taylor's extensive aged Tawny stocks, aged in seasoned oak Port pipes. Its character is unique for this bottling with the characteristic Taylor's richness and with its distinctive grip on the finish." - David Guimaraens, Taylor's WinemakerTaylor's Port
Intense tawny-brown core with a broad brick coloured rim. The harmonious and complex nose has a rich base of molasses and butterscotch aroma mingled with notes of plum and raisin, hints of black tea leaf and cigar box and fleeting floral scents. The first impression on the palate is of smoothness and density but the wine develops an attractive lightness on the mid-palate with a lively acidity and juicy plum flavours. On the finish, a surge of opulent mellow flavour is balanced by an attractive dryness. A beautifully balanced and seductive wine, at the perfect point of maturity.Wiese & Krohn
