Some of you may have seen reports (The Guardian here)on the tasting held by Which? that discovered, amazingly enough, Supermarket own-brands taste better than some mass produced big brands (considering they included Gordon’s this is hardly surprising).
We think that this is rather dismissive of the whole gin explosion going on at the minute, where new micro distilleries and gins are appearing pretty much daily. Numerous new botanicals and experimental production methods are taking gin in new directions, not to mention the emergence of quality tonic waters to match specific styles of gin.
So to open up the challenge, we thought we’d hold a little tasting over the weekend- we have acquired a bottle of one of the most highly rated Supermarket own brands, Waitrose, and challenge you to taste it against 3 picked from our range, if you can identify the own brand gin, we’ll give you 5% off a bottle of gin of your choice.
The Juniper Gauntlet has been thrown down, do you think you can meet it?
You really should have been there………………
There are tastings and then there are tastings and last month we served up the most phenomenal Italian Masterclass in the company of Michael Palij, Master of Wine, who steered us through some of his most recent discoveries (notably a Sardinian quartet which provided all the evidence you need of the revolution taking place in the island’s vineyards and cellars).
