Sugar and spice and all things nice

December 04, 2010

Don't forget to pop into our wine shop on Livery Street this year and treat yourself to some stunning wines for Christmas.

As always our experts will be on hand to help you choose the perfect wines for your Christmas dinner or party, or help with the perfect gift for your friends, family, clients or staff.  Don't forget to take advantage of our excellent gift wrapping service.

We shall have a selection of wines and spirits available to taste in the shop throughout December, as well as some mulled wine made with our delicious Gourmet Mulling Syrup.

A non alcoholic syrup containing a special blend of spices to provide a simple and convenient way to make the most delicious mulled wine, cider or apple juice. Being a sugar based product, it fully dissolves when heated and doesn’t leave any residue or powdery aftertaste, which can sometimes occur with sachet type alternatives. Simply add to your chosen drink in an 8:1 ratio, heat and serve.

£5.00 per bottle.

We also have the fabulous Mascarada Amaretto available to taste, throughout December:

A very natural product and is probably the only Amaretto available in the UK actually made with almonds. It is made by pulverising almonds and macerating them in high strength but good quality white grape spirit for 2 weeks. The liquid is then separated from the 'almond mulch' giving on the one hand almond flavoured brandy and on the other alcoholic almonds. The almonds are thus sent for distillation giving an almond distillate which is then blended back into the almond flavoured brandy. It is then sweetened, has a little high quality oak aged brandy added for complexities and bottled. On the palate it has a great backbone of natural almond character with hints of orange rind and a long developing nutty finish. If you think you like Disarronno you’ll love this

£20.95 per bottle.

Our Shop opening hours:

Mon - Friday 8.30am - 5.30pm and Sat 10 - 4.

Opening hours may extend during December.

The Half Bottle – it’s a thing of beauty

March 14, 2023

Years ago, before very clever folk started coming up with all manner of means to keep open bottles of wine (reasonably) fresh, half bottles of wine were a thing. Growers would routinely bottle a modest proportion of their harvest into half bottles and restaurants in particular, would carry them, largely for the benefit of solo diners
