Remember all those great 70's detective TV shows that are all being re-run now?
"Starsky & Hutch", "Jake & The Fat Man" (Yes, really!), or "The Streets of San Francisco"...
Well, they have no link to either food or wine that I can see (apart from the obvious one), but the phrase "Nico & The Pie Man" on "The Streets of Solihull" just popped into my head when I was thinking of a title for this blog!
At Connollys Dovehouse store on Friday, 14th March, Nico, of Curds & Whey, will be showing his range of fabulous (and sometimes smelly) cheeses alongside newcomer to the Dovehouse venue, Nigel Craige, The Pie Creator.
Nigel is a local chef with three decades of experience. More recently he has turned his hand to crafting pies and savouries with the finest ingredients to delight your palate! Nigel and his wife, Wendy, have run several restaurants and public houses, but always in the back of Nigel’s mind (and because he could never find a decent pork pie with real jelly) was the idea of starting his own pie and deli business. So just before Christmas 2012 he became "The Pie Creator"!’
There are teasing hints of over 30 different flavours of pie on offer! Nigel’s website can be found at www.thepiecreator.co.uk
So, come along and try some cheese or pies by "Nico & The Pie Man" from lunchtime and throughout the afternoon.
Just say, "Huggy Bear sent you" and you might get a special deal.
If you buy too little, or, dare I say it, forget to BUY SOME WINE! ... you might hear the squealing wheels of a red, Ford "Gran Torino" coming down the Warwick Road....You know what that means!
Keeping to the California theme, why not try some Crusher Viognier (£10.96), or McManis Zinfandel (£11.11) when you're in the shop.
You really should have been there………………
There are tastings and then there are tastings and last month we served up the most phenomenal Italian Masterclass in the company of Michael Palij, Master of Wine, who steered us through some of his most recent discoveries (notably a Sardinian quartet which provided all the evidence you need of the revolution taking place in the island’s vineyards and cellars).
