More medals than you shake a stick at

We are very pleased to announce more awards for two of our new Louisvale wines. The sparkling MCC Rosé was awarded a Gold and the Dominique a Silver at the prestigious International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC). The IWSC was founded as the ‘Club Oenologique’ in 1969 by Oenologist (wine chemist) Anton Massel as a competition where the entrants were judged not only by a tasting, but also had to undergo chemical analysis. In 1978 the name was changed to the International Wine and Spirits Competition and the competition has its own tasting venue and permanent cellar where over 400 global experts spend over 7 months working their way through all the entries.

These are not the first medals these wines from Louisvale have been awarded this season -

  • The MCC won ‘Best Rosé’ at the Amorim Challenge 2015
  • The Dominique has “medalled” (to use the current parlance) every year at the Old Mutual Trophy Show (South Africa’s top wine competition focussed on the domestic market) since 2013
  • The Chavant (the lightly oaked Chardonnay) gained a gold at Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Award (a highly regarded wine competition where over 1800 wines and spirits are judged in South Africa by a panel of 5 international judges)
  • The Purple Label Chardonnay was awarded bronze in both the Old Mutual Trophy 2014 & 2015.
  • The Stone Road Sauvignon Blanc picked up Gold at the Michelangelo Awards 2015 and a Platinum in 2014.

The Half Bottle – it’s a thing of beauty

March 14, 2023

Years ago, before very clever folk started coming up with all manner of means to keep open bottles of wine (reasonably) fresh, half bottles of wine were a thing. Growers would routinely bottle a modest proportion of their harvest into half bottles and restaurants in particular, would carry them, largely for the benefit of solo diners

Yup, we’re going all Teutonic for the month of April with tastings (both in-store and virtual), a smashing and stupidly discounted “anything but Riesling” mixed case of Germanic joy and a whopping 10% discount off all German wines throughout the month.

10 % discount you say……?
Yup, this is the simple bit – 10% discount on all German wines throughout April – no minimum quantity.
