Way back in the dawn of prehistory (last March) during his sojourn to South Africa, Chris reported back about some cracking wines made under the name of Elemental Bob (who is actually called Craig), as reported in this blog. Unfortunately due to the tiny quantities produced we were unable to bring these precious treasures back until now!
His Grenache Blanc was awarded 5 stars in the 2018 Platter's Guide (THE South African wine bible) one of just 111 awarded in total in 2018. The first edition of Platter’s Guide was published in 1980 and in the intervening 38 years, only 987 five star ratings have been awarded in total – a true accolade for this stunning wine. Several other wines in the range fared very well too and Tim Atkin also agrees- he awarded 90+ point ratings to all 5 of Craig/Bob's wines he tasted in his latest South Africa report 2017 (incidentally, we now have all five and more...) Prices start at £17.50 and stock is limited, especially since Abi has just seen them and wants them all for Arch 13..
You really should have been there………………
There are tastings and then there are tastings and last month we served up the most phenomenal Italian Masterclass in the company of Michael Palij, Master of Wine, who steered us through some of his most recent discoveries (notably a Sardinian quartet which provided all the evidence you need of the revolution taking place in the island’s vineyards and cellars).
