Old Grenache and Carignan vines grown at altitude provide the fruit which is harvested slightly earlier than the norm to give balance to a wine which could otherwise risk stumbling into clumsy territory. The Grenache provides the driving beat pushing things forward with an intensity of dark fruit whilst the Carignan plays the accompanying harmony. No oak just small concrete tanks. The Cigar; a name coined by Coonawarra Vignerons to describe the unique cigar-shaped strip of rich red terra rossa soil. Home to some of Australia’s most famous vineyards, the secret of Coonawarra lies in the intimate bond between the terra rossa soil, limestone layers, pure artisan water and a long cool ripening season. Fortunate to be part of this iconic place, Yalumba salutes the region’s pioneers and those privileged to inherit its future.

A perfumed wine, displaying spice notes, lavender and violets, with fruit aromtics of warm strawberries, blackberries, and the quintessential note of sea-spray that the region is known for. Peppery, fresh and alive with youthful tannins, the moderate to long palate has intense red-purple cassis fruit.

Yalumba

It’s called Austrian Pepper as you’ll find plenty of peppery spice in it. Perhaps the hottest thing from Austria. It’s not just wine. It is just the most peppery-fruity Grüner Veltliner on the block. Spice up your life!

Sourced from elevated sites throughout the Barossa and Eden Valleys, The Struie reflects the cooler side of the region and showcases the subtle nuances that are gained from hillside viticulture.

The Struie is a wonderfully aromatic and deeply concentrated wine produced from the harmonious combination of both regions, delivering layers of dark chocolate characters and defining structure. Nuances of plum, blackberries, violets and hidden spice characters all further enhance the natural elegance and tension of the fruit quality. The Struie will certainly age tremendously well over the next decade.

Torbreck

Ripe stone fruit aromas leading to a textured palate with citrus and apricot characters alongside nutty, mineral notes and bright acidity. The finish is long, savoury and lightly saline.

A nose of honey, apricots and marmalade extends to a luscious yet well balanced palate. There is some acidity here which adds freshness and keeps the wine very clean. Warm stone fruits, orange citrus and nectarine linger on the pleasing finish.

Viña Requingua

Freshly picked and fermented Frappato grapes are blended with ultra-ripe Nero d'Avola that have dried on the vine to provide a delightful "Appassimento" style red - rich, savoury and a real crowd-pleaser.

Baglio Gibellina

A deeply coloured, medium-bodied, spicy red with aromas of ripe plum and black cherry. The palate combines warm, juicy red fruit flavours with savoury, lightly smoky characters, a hint of bitter chocolate and nip of tannin on the finish.

Thick-skinned and wild, Gros Manseng is relatively unknown. For years, it was held in lower regard than its equally obscure parent, Petit Manseng, and blended away anonymously. We've captured its winemaking potential in one of the fruitiest and fun wines you're likely to taste.

Aromas of ripe white peach, pineapple, and light citrus notes. The palate has stone fruit and nutty characters and a silky texture, which is balanced by fresh acidity and leads to a long and creamy finish. Richly textured yet with bright acidity so a dream to partner with food or drink on its own. Roast Chicken on a Sunday afternoon before nodding off and waking up during Antiques Roadshow.

A juicy and satisfying Lebanese red, full of berry fruit aromas. The palate has richness, rounded tannins, plenty of dark fruit, spice and herbal notes. Medium bodied and versatile, it works well with a wide variety of foods.

Ripasso wines benefit from extra structure and fruit delivered by using the skins of sun dried grapes. This wine is bursting with cherries on the nose, has great depth of flavour, silky smooth fruit and a long, rich velvety finish.

Biscardo Vini

COLOUR Bright and deep ruby.
NOSE A loaded and dense perfume of cassis, licorice and strawberry sorbet is deepened by ocean scents of dried shells and crayfish bisque. Ironstone rock brings earthy notes which give way to dried rose petal and vanilla butter intrigue.
PALATE So intense, tight, lengthy and exciting. A fresh and succulent entry pulls inward with firm, linear tannins driving the flavours long. Fresh raspberry, wood spice, vanilla and peanut complexities linger.

Vasse Felix

Vat 9 is a blend of the best of Tyrell's old blocks that sit on the strip of red soil that runs through the winery.

The 2018 vintage, one of the earliest Shiraz harvests seen, was simply spectacular for Shiraz in the Hunter Valley. Warm, dry conditions kept cropping levels down, producing wines of great concentration and length of flavour. Intense purple in colour, the wine displays a pretty, red-berry nose with hints of subtle oak and lifted spice. The medium-bodied palate shows soft, sweet fruits and more of that subtle oak, all complemented by a fine, clean acid structure and long tannins. This is a classic Vat 9 that is destined to have a long life in the cellar.

Tyrrell's Family Winemakers

This has full ripe Pinot Gris spiciness on the nose, with a lovely lemon lift, it is medium weight but with a full stony impact on the palate where it is long and satisfying with good acidity.

A medium-dry rose that is refreshing and light, with delicious berry and fruit flavours.

A stylish and concentrated Verdicchio with fresh intense aromas of grapefruit and lime, as well as honeyed stonefruit. The palate is fresh and fruity; very approachable, with apple, pear and ripe stone fruit. A mouthfilling minerality adds to the complexity and palate weight.

Intense, deep ruby red colour. The nose is complex, with red fruits and notes of spice, as well as a great mineral content coming from the granite that constitutes the soil. In the mouth it is elegant, with good structure, lots of energy and good acidity. This makes it fresh, vibrant and juicy, as well as helping the wine in its potential in the bottle.

Classic Albariño aromas predominate with herbal notes intertwined with stone fruits and citrus; textural and rounded on the palate with a little grip on the finish and rich, flavoursome fruit cut through with refreshing acidity

Maison Roche de Bellene

Malvasia Nera di Brindisi (not to be confused with Malvasia Nera di Basilicata. obviously..) is another of these lesser known varieties that apparently have been knocking around Puglia for centuries and are only now emerging into the daylight of single varietal bottlings

With a history going back to 1883, Wente is America’s oldest family owned winery. Based in Livermore to the east of San Francisco Bay, they have extensive vineyard holdings across the central coast area including, as the name suggests, along the southern hills. Half a lifetime ago (well 31 years ago to be precise) I was fortunate enough to spend a Sunday afternoon at the estate tasting (drinking) eating and playing all manner of “garden games” whilst on a trip with a whole bunch of international wine buyers – it’s the kind of memory that sticks with you. What’s the wine like Chris? In a word, generous. Full flavoured with the whole California Cabernet thing going on of blackberries and cassis. 12 months in a mix of French and American oak adds an extra dimension and at this time of year, in terms of food, I’d be thinking barbecue

The 2023 Butler’s Grant Old Vines Riesling is a stunning showcase of the estate’s oldest Riesling vines, planted in 1980 at Butler’s Grant Vineyard. Crafted with wild fermentation and aged six months on lees, this Riesling undergoes 100% malolactic fermentation, resulting in a wine of exceptional depth and complexity.

Aromas of ripe cherry, plum and vanilla. Bright cherry, strawberry and baking spices on the palate. This pinot is medium bodied with well balanced acidity and silky tannins.

Classic ancient vine Semillon selected from 2 small plots, the oldest planted in 1905. The fruit for the Wildeberg wines comes from the Franschhoek Valley only, hand-harvested, naturally-fermented and gently matured in the mountain barrel hall on the farm. Restrained, delicate aromas with bright citrus fruit offset by savoury, waxy notes. The palate has an impactful attack of taut, stony, highly textural citrus tang and terrific mouthfeel. A subtle, beautifully balanced wine with layers of expression.

Taking grapes from Magaret River and Pemberton this is classic Aussie Chard- bold fresh fruit, toasty notes and and long fine acidity at the finish

This is something really very unique and really worth a try.

There are not many wineries that have built their success by focusing on just one grape variety, let alone one that has been almost permanently out of fashion, but that is precisely what Bodegas Ximénez-Spínola have done since 1729. Working solely with Pedro Ximénez, they produce a selection of fascinating dry wines, dessert wines and sherries that bring all of their 300 years of experience to bear.

Pedro Ximenez grapes are left to over ripen on the vine for 21 additional days to the conventional harvest. Harvested by hand and transported in 15kg boxes to prevent damage to the fruit.

Soft pressed and fermented on the skins in French Oak barrels (225 and 300l). To ensure slow fermentation, 30 litres of must is added to the barrel each day which means it is fermented totally dry. The musts are kept on the lees with soft battonage for six months in barrel.

A clean gold colour with green highlights. The nose is marked by the French oak, which accentuates the raisin and prune aromas. A soft palate despite the high alcohol and a pleasant finish of ripe fruit and oak

With the colour of arterial blood, the nose reveals wild berries, rhubarb and custard. The palate is dense, concentrated and brooding opening to a rich mid-palate with cherry-stone fruit and bitter plum and a long finish with a gentle brick-like texture.

Alpha Box & Dice

Juicy bright flamboyant Montepulciano with a quickening beetroot tang. This has a really more-ish acidity with a bitter cherry attack crying out for fatty carpaccio.
