Well, as they say in the Wick Tourist Office, "you're welcome to Wick" and, with apologies to readers from this godforsaken outpost of the British Empire, in particular our charming host at the Mackay Hotel it is one of the most unprepossessing of metropoli. To think that after 14 hours travelling we could be in San Francisco, Cape Town, Rio de Janeiro etc and here we are in Wick.
Anyway, enough of my self pity, here we are in the far north east, feeling lean and fit and ready to conquer the world (or at least to ride down to Lands End. Team Jogle comprises:
Left to right
Yours truly
David Back - largely responsible for putting Team Jogle together -allegedly his contribution is his inspiration. Time will tell.
Suzy Back - our very own paramedic and much appreciated support team. Not sure what made you volunteer for such a role Suzy but we are all hugely grateful.
Ian Greaves - team treasurer and transport provider. Frequently to be heard chanting his mantra "I hope you got a receipt for that."
Laurie Scott - our token Cumbrian, providing a breath of sanity together with an interesting array of tools. Thanks tons to Jenny for the Cumberland Sausage sandwiches for breakfast!
For those intererested in such things we have 2 Van Nicholas, 1 Trek Madone 6.5 and one Raleigh circa 1975 with the most heroic gear ratio. Best of luck Backie!!
Off to refuel in preparation for tomorrow's exertions. One tasting note of note - Ossian Bitter from Inveralmond Brewery - pale, hoppy and herbal; an absolute delight at lunchtime.
You really should have been there………………
There are tastings and then there are tastings and last month we served up the most phenomenal Italian Masterclass in the company of Michael Palij, Master of Wine, who steered us through some of his most recent discoveries (notably a Sardinian quartet which provided all the evidence you need of the revolution taking place in the island’s vineyards and cellars).
