Symingtons have been making wine in Portugal for multiple generations and their “modest” portolio includes the likes of Graham’s, Warre’s and Dow’s Port houses together with Blandy’s Madeira. More recently they have branched out into the burgeoning world of Portuguese table wines using grapes from across the Quintas that they manage. This blend of Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Barroca is kind of “port without the fortification” so gutsy and spicy but without the sweetness or the potential for headaches

The long wild yeast ferment provides bready aromas and additional complexity to the wine. Dried herbaceous notes, including fennel and aniseed from the nearby Fynbos, dominate the nose, followed by a creamy lemon character. The palate is reminiscent of the nose, with great textural complexity (attributable to the long, slow wild yeast fermentation), and more herbal characters.
