Back in the 1980s when I was doing my wine exams, Greece barely warranted a mention – I think the only Greek wine that was referenced was Retsina which was, quite reasonably in most people’s estimation, dismissed as “only drinkable when served in a traditional taverna, under a blue sky and overlooking a sun-kissed beach.” How times have move on – Greece is now alive with young winemakers keen to work their magic on the country’s wealth of unpronounceable grape varieties.

This is proper, serious, gastronomic rosé from a family estate in Attica, some 30 km from the shadow of the Acropolis. It’s a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Agiorgitiko and has some fabulous blackcurrant leaf aromatics coupled with some fine acidity and mouth watering salinity. Really good with grilled swordfish or tuna.
