66 years ago, 10 growers in the west of Sicily threw caution to the wind and combined their resources to form a small co-operative. This has now mushroomed into one of the region’s larger players with 2,800 ha of vineyards and over 1,000 members. It’s not quaint and you’d struggle to describe it as artisan but they do make some cracking, smashable wines as this Frappato bears out. Lovely light, juicy red, bursting with fruit – maybe chill it down slightly and try it with lightish summer salads whilst there’s still a hint of summer left
