Memorably described at a tasting as `1/2 Tawny Port, 1/2 Vin Santo, and 1/2 Amontillado Sherry, and yes I know that makes 3`, this is exquisite.
Made from the Narince grape (incidentally the most widely plant vine in Turkey, but mainly for it`s edible vine leaves) the wine is fortified and then spends 12 years maturing barrel before bottling. An initial whiff of rancio notes leads into a palate bursting with sweet baked apple and before the sugar becomes overpowering a long dry finish emerges. Trust me,even a banquet, not a drop of this will be left undrunk...
A truly electric and oh so lovely wine! Ground marble and fresh limes in a caipirinha kind of way. A taut mineral structure with very lean, clean and crisp finish. Bright, brittle and brilliant. Your taste buds will start vibrating around your mouth as soon as the first drop hits your tongue. It`s as nervous as an electric eel on its first day at school when it finds out he hasn`t got any pants on! Drinking this wine is like being defibrillated by lightning on a lime-soaked marble slab. This vintage carries a little more flesh on the bones than the previous but is otherwise our skeletal friend.
eally well defined old vine fruit grips you by the chops with its gentle hands. The first then second sip release a staccato flurry of words through your head… blossoms... red flowers… fresh... bright... tight... clean... natural acidity… complex.. Almost a grapefruity tightness to this style of wine that opens up, rounds out and grows. The lovely clipped structure needs time or breathe or blood and flesh to hang onto… it’s a zombie wine that wants to dig its claws into something! Serious old vine vineyard from a classic Clare area. Almost challengingly restrained for the impatient.
