Cihuatan were founded in 2004 and is El Salvador's only rum distillery. As the offshoot of long established sugar producer Ingenio La Cabaña they haven't been under the same pressures as some new distilleries and have had the luxury of allowing their rums the time needed to mature before being released.
The Sahumerio is an intriguing rum created by blending 4 different rums, aged between 12 and 14 years, specially chosen to bring the flavours of the offerings the Mayans used to burn for the goddess Chantico's graces. There's apricots in honour of family love, incense for friendship, honey and myrtle for romance, and cocao butter for (and this is a direct quote) ‘in honour of self love’.
