On the Chassis terraces, the former Rhône river bed has deposited a layer of river pebbles, marking the identity of the terroir and emblematic of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. Yann Chave's Syrah have been growing here happily for over 50 years. For Le Rouvre, he select plots where the grapes produce deep, perfectly velvety tannins, for a wine with a marked identity and optimal ageing qualities.
Nose: discreet nose requiring aeration. Aromas develop with finesse and much complexity; blackberry jam, liquorice sticks, a hint of roasting and spice.
Palate: full and generous on the palate. Mid-palate reveals rich aromas of ripe fruit and a hint of smokiness. Tannins are dense and intense, but with great finesse, giving the wine imposing structure and a long finish. A truly superb wine.
The wine has lots of warm black fruit and plum aromas, with cinnamon, spices, pepper and a hint of vanilla. The palate is concentrated with damsons, red fruit, spice and stony minerality with a very elegant and warm finish. The mouth is initially very silky but gives way to some mouth watering acidity and firm tannins.
