Piemonte makes a genuine claim to be the most iconic of all of Italy's iconic wine regions home to the famed weighty Barolo and Barberesco. Within Piemonte there are also the much underrated Barbera and Dolcetto grapes best known for their red wines from Alba and Asti. For those who prefer white wines Piemonte is also home to the Cortese grape best for Gavi or Gavi di Gavi and the tragically rare Timorasso grape which although it makes wines of excellent intensity and balance was nigh on extinct all but 30 years ago.
