A late edition to our programme due to public demand is the MONDAY night LOIRE tasting.
An enormous amount of wine is created in this vast region mostly white but with a good deal of red too. Styles change as you follow the course of the river (Pays Nantais Anjou Touraine Central Loire) according to the grape varieties planted and wine-making techniques practised. But the one thing all of these wines share is that they are made to display freshness and relatively high acidity and rarely is oak used to ferment or age the wines.

The Red Lion Warstone Lane
On the First Thursday of every month we get together the @RedLionUAB on Warstone Lane for an evening of fine foods and even finer wines. The menu is always adventurous (and this time entirely carnivorous) so please inform Dave at The Red Lion in advance if there are any dietary constraints they are more than willing to work around them if they get warning.
For May in honor of International Truffle Day the theme will be Truffles and other fungi. Prepare for an evening full of umami.....
It is suggested to arrive for about 7.00ish we will taste 8 different wines chosen to match particular aspects of the food with occasional little nibbles to match specific wines with the option to purchase your favourite one to go with the main.
Tickets are £30 a head and available through the Red Lion on 0121-233-9144
The flights to and from Italy are booked . . . I have no idea what we shall be tasting on the 24th but they will be Italian and they will be brand new to Connolly's.
In a few short years Australian wine has gone from being flavour of the month to yesterday's new. Hampered by a disadvantageous exchange rate and one or two less successful vintages many wine drinkers have moved on to other things. Consequently we have spent weeks in the tasting room working our palates to the bone looking for all manner of new Aussie treasures - join Mark as he talks you through some of our latest discoveries.
