Pieve Santa Restituta is Italian wine icon Gaja's Tuscan outpost, acquired in 1994. Pieve Santa Restituta is located next to the picture postcard hilltop town of Montalcino, in an area surrounded by hills and dense woods. The soil, altitude and lush topography make Montalcino the ideal home for the Sangiovese grape, the star of the area’s celebrated Brunello di Montalcino wine.
The 2015 Brunello shows botanical notes and fresh fruity aromas of sage, rosemary, red currant and pomegranate, followed by complimentary notes of clove and incense.
The wine has lots of warm black fruit and plum aromas, with cinnamon, spices, pepper and a hint of vanilla. The palate is concentrated with damsons, red fruit, spice and stony minerality with a very elegant and warm finish. The mouth is initially very silky but gives way to some mouth watering acidity and firm tannins.
