Mas de Daumas Gassac Red 2016

Tasting Note

Benifitting from a unique, cooler micro-climate; perfectly drained, mineral rich but nutrient poor red soil common to the great Bordeaux and grand cru Burgundies; sparsely plnted small plots surrounded by forest and garrique (wild herb and bush scrubland); Mas de Daumas Gassac is as good as many growth clarets. A longer growing season and fermentation (typically 3 weeks) allows much more complex flavours to develop that are often lost in most of the high-tech wine produced today. About 80% cab/sauv with an ecceltic mix of ancient varieties (Cot, Merlot, Cab Franc, Syrah, Tannat, Pinot, Nebbiolo, Grenache, Tempranillo, Voskehat, Kontorni, Salte). The wine is complex with crushed blackberries and mulberries on the nose with an array of smoky/leathery notes and a silky finish.
