Donjon de Lamarque is made with the younger grapes of the property with a higher percentage of Merlot (up to 60%) and less Cabernet (40% Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc). The Merlot could actually have been part of the Château de Lamarque blending but that would change the traditional Cabernet dominated blend of the first wine.
Donjon de Lamarque is aged in French oak barrels (all coming from the French region of Allier) for about 12 to 14 months before being bottled. The picking of the barrels is extremely meticulous, being guided by the idea of respecting the harmony between the oak tannins and the wine tannins. Every year the pairing is different. Traditionally 2 vintage-old barrels are used for Donjon de Lamarque.
Donjon de Lamarque is a fleshy wine on the fruit with vanilla notes and underwood aromas. It presents a well-balanced body and a great length on the palate. It is definitely a wine you can cellar up to 10 years.
A celebration of Mendoza - the colour, culture and flavour and a celebration of friendship. A really pure expression of Malbec, bright red & juicy, rich chocolate flavours with a lick of oak to round out the edges. Muy, muy fantasticó – richly bloody, vibrant, Latin and velveteen.
A fresh wine with a lovely hue, bursting with aromas of ripe guava, pineapple, kiwi, green apple and a hint of strawberry, ending with a well-balanced acidity and a lingering finish.
Deep ruby red. A rich, expressive bouquet with notes of red-berried fruit, blackberry and blackcurrant with highlights of oak. The palate is rounded, ample and flavourful, displaying remarkable freshness. The harmonious balance of the tannins, which imparts fine aromatic length with a predominantly fruity back-of-palate, is to be savoured. One of the great achievements of the 2017 vintage, a very fine wine that stands out by virtue of its freshness and vibrancy.
Freshly picked and fermented Frappato grapes are blended with ultra-ripe Nero d'Avola that have dried on the vine to provide a delightful "Appassimento" style red - rich, savoury and a real crowd-pleaser.
